Sam Aptekar #13Class: Senior
Position: C Height: 6' Weight: 165 Hometown: Gilroy, CA High School: Gilroy High School Major: History Whether it is laughing at a joke five seconds too late, or trying to not get thrown out from right, Sam, aka Brendan's Little, has always been slow. Sam was a little shy until his Bar-mitzvah, but then this circumcised Jew from Gilroy really grew out of his Dreidel. He immediately posted his phone number on his Facebook and then the Shiksas started flowing like Brendan in a Motel 6 bathroom. It is always pretty clear when Sam had a fun night before a game, because he will be sleeping the whole way to a game and checking his Venmo payments making sure the girl paid her half of the Uber/Dinner. That coupon to Applebee's only covered his entree. Shalom.

Matthew Mercier #32Class: Freshman

Michael Fink #13Class: Junior
Position: 1B/3B Height: 6'3 Weight: 220 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: Lafayette, CA High School: Accalanes High School Major: Fink (is that a name???) hails from the depths of the Bay Area and hopes to add depth to the Bears starting rotation, as well as the ability carry the entire starting 9 in the back of his oversized van. Starring in football at the prestigious Acalanes high school, Fink joined the team his junior year after failing to walk on to the ever so talented football team. Dressing the part of a true ballplayer, Fink’s untucked shirt paired with his mucus yellow snapback hat strike fear into any player that is unfortunate enough to be the one hitter he is allowed to face each weekend. His Apple Watch tracks his every movement on the field, which includes the five foot radius surrounding first base. When not on the baseball diamond, Fink enjoys long walks on the beach and romantic dinners by the bay with his right hand.

Jeffrey Landes #1Class: Junior
Position: CF/SS Height: 5'11 Weight 150 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: Aurora, CO High School: Regis Jesuit Major: Econ/ Computer Science Jeff is one of the biggest guys on the team in terms of ego. He is definitely not one of the biggest when we talk about muscle mass. He weighs in at a whopping 185...grams. Although Jeff often needs help opening peanut butter jars and holding his pencil steady in class, he does possess some advantages due to his anemia that no one else has. He can’t walk for very long without his cute little skinny legs getting tired, but he can float to class if there is a slight breeze. On the baseball field, his main advantage is that he is very difficult to tag out because of how small he is. He can also squeeze into incredibly small spaces, which can help us save space in a car on road trips.
Jeff has other qualities other than being small. He is also incredibly pale (again, due to his anemia). He is terrified of the sun, and has to turn the brightness on his phone all the way down to avoid screen burns. Jeff needs your support to beat his anemia. Please donate to help this pale, frail little boy afford some weights to lift and a trip to the tanning salon. |
Class: Junior
Position: 1B/P Height: 6'0 Weight: 175 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: Woodland Hills, CA High School: El Camino Real Charter High School Major: Physics Teddy Eddy? Wet the beddy? Jk Teddy the beast who digs balls. The guy you'll catch at cafe Estrada at 8am. The guy who digs more balls than Albert Pujols and Mark Texiera put together. The savior of our short throws from the infield. Considering we don't have strong arms, Teddy saves balls from getting away, and with doing so he has saved us in multiple occasions. Oh wait there's more, Teddy can smash balls too! Oh yeah he def smashes balls..... so far that our enemies in the outfield can't catch. Thanks for loving balls Teddy, we appreciate you and your ball saving skills. You ball handling extraordinaire!

Jesse Ough #5Class: Sophomore
Position: C/1B Height: 6'1 Weight: 180 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: El Cerrito, CA High School: El Cerrito High School Major: Fraternity Studies Jesse had his glory days in high school like the rest of us. But unlike most of us, he still talks about them. Rumor has it he threw 90 but because he threw too much, he messed up his arm. Will he be a future SF Giants catcher? Nah. Future Giants broadcaster? Definitely. Boy’s been calling your basketball and football games. Say what’s up next time.

Mark Scheble #15Class: Freshman
Position: OF Height: 6'1 Weight: 185 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: Carlsbad, CA High School: Carlsbad High School Major: Poli Econ Mark likes to play baseball. When he’s not playing baseball, he can be found doing other things. After Mark graduates with a degree, he aspires to do something. His favorite foods are edible and he likes to listen to certain types of music. When he’s not playing baseball or doing stuff, Mark is known for his passion for doing other things. All in all, Mark is the type of guy that people either know or don’t know depending on who you ask.

Daniel Hennessy #30Class: Senior
Position: 3B Height: 5'11 Weight: 165 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: Culver City, CA High School: Culver City High School Major: History Daniel came into the season believing he was going to be the starting third basemen after Josh Volponi finally graduated. Unfortunately, he is still Plan B after having his starting spot aborted once again. He looks up to Cal Club Baseball legend Jason Wipaki, and lives by the alumnus' motto "I filled her up bruh." Daniel's weirdest pregame ritual is eating a Grand Slam from Denny's, and it has translated to the games.

Patrick Brown #6Class: Freshman
Position: 3B/ 1B (coach) Height: 5'10 Weight: 160 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: San Anselmo, CA High School: Sir Francis Drake High School Major: Pat’s new to the team this year, and his future looks brighter than a pot of gold. He’s looking forward to logging in a lot of time at third while proudly boosting the ginger count on the team. If you see him on his phone, you can bet he’s trying to figure out how to avoid his fantasy team’s consolation bracket for the third straight year. Pat enjoys keeping up with the latest superfood trends, and looks forward to owning a Prius after graduation. Off the field, this fiery lad proudly identifies as a sunscreen enthusiast.

Andre Balthazard #35Class: Sophomore
Position: 3B/2B/P/SS/1B Height: 5'11 Weight: 190 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: Sacramento, CA High School: Rio Americano High School Major: Operations Research and Management Science Andre is a great two way player with potential to play anywhere on the field. His sweet stroke is only matched by the tenacity to get his opponent out. A fierce competition, Andre is a huge contribution to the team, and has the skill set necessary to help the team win.

Alexander Wing #5Class: Senior
Position: SS/2B Height: short Weight: 140 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: El Cerrito, CA High School: El Cerrito High School Major: Environmental Economics In loving memory of Alexander Wing, age 12. Grew up in El Cerrito, moved to Berkeley to attend school with all his cousins. Despite not making the height requirement for college, Alexander managed to graduate, and even found time to “play" for Cal Club Baseball. Gone too soon. RIP

Bryan Osorio-Trujillo #12Class: Senior
Position: IF/C Height: 5'9 Weight: 175 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: Delano, CA High School: Cesar E. Chavez High School Major: Cognitive Science Bryan is a smooth middle infielder (when he fields the ball) who serves as a team leader and sets an example with his consistent punctuality and dedication. Although his budding political career takes up most of his free time, Bryan recently confided in the team that his dream is to be an elite used car salesman. Despite only having nine toes, he has complete confidence that he can hit above .200 this year, beating Sam Aptekar’s career high by .150 points. We have high hopes for Bryan’s senior year and we are very excited to have him on the team.
|
Adolfo Cruz #12Class: Junior
Position: 2B/OF Height: 5'7 Weight: 155 Bats/Throws: Right/ Right Hometown: Bell, CA High School: Bell High School Major: Adolfo is a fiery second baseman from Mexico. With hands like Heyzeuss, this speedy Guatemalan is truly a club baseball legend. This Colombian returner often compares himself to Brandon Phillips in appearance, but not because Adolfo is black, six feet tall, and is “down with the brothas.” According to Adolfo “we are both big time, when and where it matters,” surprisingly this is also Acacia’s motto, and not surprisingly why Acacia no longer exists at UC Berkeley. In his spare time, Adolfo fights off robbers at the RSF using what he calls his own Brazilian Martial Arts Style. Though he is 0-4 in protecting the well being of the gym, you won’t ever see the pride of Chile go 0-4 during a game.

Jackson Michalski #19Class: Junior
Position: P/OF Height: 6'1 Weight: 185 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: Manhattan Beach, CA High School: Mira Costa High School Major: Physic A solid outfielder and ace of the team, Jackson Michalski is returning for his third year on the Cal Club Baseball team. Jackson enjoys the simple pleasures in life, including being a Ginger, striking batters out, and being the #2 fan of the Angels. Some interesting facts about Jackson include playing in the Junior World Series, having the same diet as the average 7-year-old, and being the only upper classman who eats at crossroads. Jackson comes off as a very normal, calm guy, but don’t let this façade fool you. He has been known to take advantage of injured players, especially when it allows him to take an extra base. RIP Santa Cruz Catcher…

Connor Oswalt #27Class: Freshman
Position: P/ 1B Height: 5'11 Weight: 155 Bats/Throws: Left/Left Hometown: Reseda, CA High School: Cleveland High School Major: He wants to be an environmental lawyer or something Connor fills the shoes left by Ian McKinnon last year quite literally. In fact, the lefty centerfielder had to show us his birth certificate to prove he wasn’t Ian coming back for a fifth year. Connor runs and talks quick to make up for the fact that he did not talk or walk until he was 5. Connor comes from a big whiffle ball background as he was the two time national whiffle ball player of the year in high school. It was here where he learned the skill to not be able to throw anything that doesn’t break 3 feet. But his love for baseball and whiffle ball pale in comparison to love for his favorite restaurant, Crossroads. Having a so called unlimited plan, Connor has been known to have multiple dinners there in the same night. Will the magic of Crossroads give Connor’s 100 pound frame the ability to hit the ball out of the infield? We will have to wait and find out

Connor Lau # ??Class: Sophomore
Position: 2B/ DL Height: 6'0 Weight: 165 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: San Jose, CA High School: Pioneer High School Major: Connor Lau is probably the coolest guy on the team, at least according to Connor Lau. With his daily ensemble of a backwards cap, overly skinny jeans, and those irritatingly white vans (Daaaaamn Connor!), he is the idol of middle school skaters everywhere. Unfortunately, his boarding abilities haven’t seemed to progress since those days, which is why Connor will be starting this season with a steel plate in his hand, necessitated by a nasty skateboarding accident. Pretty metal. On the bright side, this shouldn’t affect his accuracy on the field, since Connor usually throws the ball twenty feet over his target’s head anyway. This phenomenon probably has more to do with Connor’s prepubescently smooth infant skin, which makes sense considering that he decided to circumcise himself at the age of 16 with the help of the girl from Teeth. On the bright side, Sam is happy that Connor has proved the Jews right once and for all.

Alec English #7Class: Junior
Position: P/OF Height: 6'1 Weight: 160 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: South Pasadena, CA High School: South Pasadena High School Major: Physics Alec rules over club baseball with an iron fist. He can get caught muttering phrases in Italian, German, and Russian which may or may not be related to the World War II class he’s been taking on the side. Other than that Alec exclusively studies physics. In fact, legend has it the reason it takes Alec 5 min between every pitch is so he can calculate the trajectory of his next pitch in his head. Unfortunately he either needs a bit more practice in these calculations or needs to stop watching cricket as Sam has to ice his shins after every inning Alec throws.

Matthew Arnst #22Class: Freshman
Position: SS/ P Height: 6'0 Weight: 150 Bats/Throws: Right/Right Hometown: Pasadena, CA High School: Marshall Fundamental High School Major: Intended Business Administration Matthew Arnst likes to keep us all guessing whether or not he will show up for practice or games. When he does show up however, he looks good, Especially as he looks at strike three. His season highlights include:
1) striking out looking in the 1st inning, forcing Coach Allen to bench him. 2) missing an entire road trip because waking up is hard. |
