GOLETA, CA--A disappointing start to the season concluded with a loss on Sunday to USC, and the Bears depart Santa Barbara with a 1-3 record.
The last three games of the tournament were a mixed bag. A Sunday afternoon victory over Cal State Fullerton demonstrated the dominance the Bears are capable of, but an anemic offensive showing against UCLA doomed Cal to the loser's bracket.
Notable performances from the weekend were Pablo Magallanes' excellent start versus Fullerton, Jeff Kuemmeler's offensive emergence after a slow start to the tournament, and newcomer Austin Ochola's impressive debut.
League begins next week agains Sacramento State. Games will be played at Big Rec Field in Golden Gate Park.
