PITTSBURG, CA--In a three game series hosted by the St. Mary's, Cal lost two of three and saw their season basically end.
The first game was a 6-2 affair that saw starter Allen Colborn throw a decent game while being let down by a defense that made four errors. A two RBI day from Jeff Kuemmeler was not enough to propel a Cal team that managed 8 hits but couldn't string anything together.
Gabriel Tiscareno started a bullpen game in the second half of the doubleheader, and the Bears ended up winning 8-2. The bottom half of the order was the main story--10 of the team's 13 hits came from the 6-9 hitters. Josh Volponi went 4-4 and led the way.
St. Mary's won the rubber match 3-0. Pablo Magallanes threw a fantastic game but was let down by a couple defensive miscues in the bottom of the 7th. The offense struggled again, as the seven hits they did muster were scattered and ultimately toothless.
Due to Sonoma State's series victory over UC Davis, Cal has been essentially eliminated from SoPac North contention.
